New updates for the RTS mini-game on Unity and new video
Hello everyone. It's me Antony, back with another blog in 2025.
I know I've been absent for a while without a new Blog for a long time. Now that I'm working on the new role as health community agent, my colleagues and I are visiting the families as part of our job to improve the health quality in our community and town. Things are looking good and we're enjoying in our new role.
And, again, new Nightwave chapter is still on. Fortunately we (my brother and I) reached the level 30. As usual, we'll only play it for some events and some other things.
For this Blog, I'm going to talk about the RTS mini-game that I've been working a long time ago. and share you a new video and more images.
I decided to record a new video showing the latest update of the RTS mini-game. I mentioned my original channel (TonyTorius) because of the previous videos I uploaded from the mini-game I was working for a long time. By now, future videos related to it and my other Unity3D projects will be uploaded to TonyAnima Projects.
I made some major updates for the RTS mini-game. The main one being the Icons being used for the buttons instead of the Name + Description.
At least it's a good thing when you want to make something similar to the famous RTS games (WarCraft, Age of Empires, Command & Conquer, StarCraft, Armies of Exigo, Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War and others).
Another thing I added to the mini-game are the models for the Soldier, Pikeman, Lumber Camp, Farm, Mining Camp, Barracks and the natural resources - updating the old models I made in 3DS Max.
Also, I changed the resources. I decided to make the Gold as the main resource (similar to WarCraft and Armies of Exigo) and Wood as the secondary resource for buildings, long-range units, siege weapons and others. Stone and Crystals were added to the mini-game as I plan to give different functions like: Stone would be used for long-range siege weapons (for example: the Trebuchet) basic and military buildings while being the major resource for walls, towers and gates; and the Crystal would be used for training mystical / magical units, spellcasters and research magical spells.
Food would be used as the main resource for training units, but, as I changed the criteria for resources - Gold being the main resource; Food wouldn't have a big role as a resource to be collected. But it would be used as a population indicator - increased by building more Farms or population buildings according to the respective faction in order to supply your army.
Question: Any chance of adding the Upkeep to the mini-game?
I'm not really sure if I plan to add the Upkeep. In case you wonder what exactly it is, the Upkeep is the taxation related to your army and its supplies. Based in WarCraft 3: Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne, when you have an army that grow in numbers, you need to pay taxes for its maintenance. The taxes are reflected on the Gold you collect from the Gold Mines. When your army has few soldiers (0 to 50 Food being used), there's No Upkeep and your Gold income is 100%. When your army has moderate amount of soldiers (51 to 80 Food being used), you have a Low Upkeep - reducing your Gold income to 70%. When your army has too many soldiers (81 to 100 Food being used), you have a High Upkeep - reducing your Gold income to 40%.
It would be an interesting feat to the mini-game, but, not all players enjoy it when it comes to Gold-income being reduced in order to maintain your troops supplied and well paid.
Back to the mini-game. Let me show you other screenshots.

The buildings and the first military units are looking great. The animation sequences are still development in order to upload the units back to Unity and use the Animator tools to load into specific actions (like the Attack1, Attack2, Mining, Building, Chopping, Spell1, Spell2, Death, Decay and others).
After the Soldier and the Pikeman, the next units are the Crossbowman, the Sister and maybe the other units from other factions like the Orc Brute, Ogre, Goblin Poacher, Elf Archer, Dryad, Dark Elf Chakram Thrower, Skeleton Hoplite, Ghoul, Vampire, Hellhound, Succubus and others.
Well, that's it for today. I hope you enjoy it. I'll be back with more Blogs in this year - if nothing change in order to make me occupied like job, studies and civil service exams. I plan to share more artworks and other things I did in my time. Until the time comes, you will be surprised to see it. See you next time.
